Flooding and slips have forced the closure of part of the Waioeka Gorge between Opotiki and Gisborne.
The road is closed from the mouth of the gorge to Traffords Hill.
Road users are advised to use State Highway 35 or State Highway 5 if they have to travel.
The slips are being assessed and updates will be provided on social media and the NZTA website.
