SH2 Pavement Reconstruction Work on Takitimu Drive from the 11th Ave Waihi Overbridge to the Route K Off Ramp to start next week
NZ Transport Agency advises motorists travelling along State Highway 2 (SH2) west towards Bethlehem and the Route K off ramp to expect delays from next Monday (25 June), as there will be pavement works approximately over the next 2 weeks.
The pavement works is part of the NZTA's maintenance programme for this area and will only affect west bound lanes, along a 620m section of SH2 from beyond the 11th Avenue Waihi Road Overbridge to the Route K Off Ramp.
Acting Bay of Plenty state highways manager, Andrew Scott, says one lane at a time will be closed to allow for the work to be done, and a speed restriction of 50 kph will be in place in the construction area.
"Some minor delays will be experienced for evening traffic during the week days and for those motorists using SH2a travelling from 15th Avenue and Cameron Road as they will encounter the 50 kph speed restriction in the location where this road merges with Takitimu Drive", says Mr Scott.
The pavement work will be undertaken from 7.00am to 6.00pm daily and is expected to be completed by early July. Variable Message Signs have been set up to provide motorists with advance warning of the works ahead and of the speed restriction in place.
"We apologise for the temporary inconvenience while this work is being carried out and we appreciate people's understanding of the long term benefits of ensuring that the road surface along this section of SH2 is maintained. We'd like to thank motorists for their patience during these minor delays."
Motorists wanting to find out more about this road work should go to the NZTA's website at www.nzta.govt.nz/traffic/current-conditions/index.html or freephone 0800 4HIGHWAYS (0800 44 44 49).
This work is weather dependant, and if it is wet this work will be moved to the next available fine day.
