After some wet weather delays this week, road crews will continue resurfacing work on State Highway 2 in the Hutt Valley next week.
Rain and cold weather meant conditions weren’t suitable for paving work on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday nights this week. To be effective and durable, resurfacing must be done when conditions are dry.
State Highway 2 will be closed to northbound traffic between Petone and Dowse Interchange on Sunday, 22 September, and then between Melling Link and Kennedy Good Bridge on Monday and Tuesday nights (23 & 24 September).
Drivers must use local road detours via Lower Hutt. The detour will require extra travel time. Please allow additional time for your journeys.
Wednesday and Thursday nights (25 & 26 September) will see work underway near Manor Park, north of the State Highway 58 interchange. This will see one northbound lane closed and the remaining lane open under a 30 km/h temporary speed limit.
Northbound closures will be in place out between 10 pm and 4.30 am.
State Highway 2 will remain open at all times to southbound traffic.
Drivers can also expect traffic delays from nine pm while crews set up traffic management at work sites ahead of the closures.
Resurfacing work will be ongoing along the State Highway 2 until early October. The work is essential maintenance and will improve the highway’s surface – improving its skid resistance and making it safer to drive on.
These works are weather-dependent, and schedules may change if bad weather occurs. More updates will be provided as the work progresses.
NZTA/Waka Kotahi and the Wellington Transport Alliance thank the public for their patience as this essential state highway maintenance is completed.
