A fatal road crash has forced the closure of State Highway One in southern Marlborough this afternoon.
The incident, near Kekerengu, south of Ward, involved a single vehicle and was reported just around 3.10 this afternoon.
The Police Serious Crash Unit is attending the scene, meaning the closure will last until a scene investigation is completed.
State Highway 1 is closed between Kekerengu and Ward.
People travelling between Marlborough and Kaikoura should avoid the area or delay their travel.
Those travelling between Christchurch and Picton should use the inland route via Lewis Pass and Saint Arnaud, using State Highways 7, 65, 6, and 63.
