State highway 1 at Pūhoi reopens after fatal crash

|

Traffic is flowing again in both directions on State Highway 1 north of Auckland after the road was closed for nearly five hours by a fatal crash between a car and truck just north of Pūhoi.

Throughout the day the Transport Agency advised motorists to use the alternative route SH16 between Auckland and Wellsford. There was also a detour in place closer to the crash site.

At 2:10pm a lane was opened for south-bound traffic, and the north-bound lane opened 30 minutes later.

Vehicles, including a number of trucks, were waiting for the road to reopen. That traffic was expected to clear ahead of the start of evening peak traffic leaving Auckland for the weekend.

The Transport Agency advises motorists to plan their journeys and check its social media sites for latest road information before setting off. We apologise for any inconvenience and thank motorists for their patience during the road closure.
