Speed signs now live at four Waikato intersections

|

Innovative electronic speed signs have been activated at four Waikato intersections this week.

Acting Director of Regional Relationships Ross I’Anson says it’s great to see these speed signs up and running.

“We know these signs are effective in improving safety and reducing crashes at intersections, so we encourage drivers to look out for the new signs and adjust their speeds when they are activated.”

Intersection Speed Zones are electronic signs that detect when someone is turning into or out of a side road and temporarily reduce the legal speed limit on the state highway.

These have been installed and are now activated at the following intersections:

  • SH25/Hauraki Rd intersection, south of Thames. This will temporarily reduce the speed on SH25 to 60km/h.
  • SH27/Horrell Rd intersection at Te Puninga. This will temporarily reduce the speed on SH27 to 70km/h.
  • SH29/Hopkins Rd intersection, south of Matamata. This will temporarily reduce the speed on SH29 to 60km/h.
  • SH1/SH29 intersection at Piarere. This will temporarily reduce the speed on SH1 to 60km/h.

Intersection Speed Zones have proven effective here and overseas, by slowing down the oncoming traffic, Intersection Speed Zones will help prevent crashes and reduce the risk of someone being killed or seriously injured if a crash does happen,” says Mr I’Anson.
