Southern Links Community Information days to be held

|

This weekend, residents and landowners interested in the Hamilton Southern Links investigation project are invited to attend the first of three community information days being held by the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) and Hamilton City Council (HCC).

The community information days are an opportunity for people to view and provide feedback on possible future transport networks within the Hamilton Southern Links project area.

On Saturday 9 April, people can visit the Rukuhia Community Hall, Rukuhia Road anytime from 10am-2pm. Representatives from NZTA, HCC and their consultants will be on hand to answer any questions about the Southern Links project.

"We encourage people to come and find out more about the project and to let us know their thoughts about what is proposed," says NZTA Waikato State Highways Manager Kaye Clarke.

The Southern Links project involves 32 kilometres of future transport network, including two new crossings of the Waikato River, 21km of state highway and 11km of urban arterial roads in the city's Peacocke structure plan area. The urban arterials will establish the key transport network within the Peacocke growth cell and become the building blocks for future urban development.

The long-term aim of the project is to develop an effective network of well connected state highway and urban arterial routes linking SH1 from Kahikatea Drive in Hamilton to the Waikato Expressway in Tamahere south, and SH3 from Hamilton International Airport to central and east Hamilton.

Identifying and protecting the future Southern Links transport network will enable good long-term planning to be carried out for Hamilton and the adjoining areas to the south, and will protect the long-term function of the state highway and key arterial road networks.

Two further information days are scheduled for next week. These are:

Tuesday 12 April, 2pm-7pm
Glenview Club
211 Peacockes Road, Hamilton

Thursday 14 April, 2pm-7pm
Tamahere Community Centre
Devine Road, Tamahere
