The Transport Agency says highways in the Dunedin and the wider Otago area are back to normal after being hard hit by major flooding yesterday.

Near record rainfalls closed the southern motorway northbound lanes into Dunedin, forcing traffic to detour on to local roads through Green Island. Flooding also meant only one south bound lane of the southern motorway could be used between the Burnside over bridge and the Green Island On Ramp.
Transport Agency Journey Manager Graeme Hall, says things are now returning to normal on the highway network in Dunedin and the wider Otago area after yesterday’s rain storm. All highways are open, apart from the following two highways that are still affected by flooding:
Graeme Hall says Transport Agency staff and contractors have been out today assessing flood damage although it will be next week before we have any estimate of the repairs cost. While the flooding danger has passed, drivers need to take care as highways may still affected by debris and potholes caused by flood water scouring.
