The NZ Transport Agency advises people travelling between Franz Josef and Fox Glacier, South Westland, that there will be two, one-hour-long road closures this coming Monday at lunchtime.
Essential maintenance and repairs are needed on the Waiho River Bridge, close to the Franz Josef Glacier township on State Highway 6.
The highway will be closed between 11am and midday, then again from 1pm to 2pm on Monday 18 February.
No traffic or pedestrians will be allowed over the bridge in these two one-hour periods.
People travelling north or south through the glacier towns are encouraged to plan their journey across the Waiho River between midday and 1pm, or before 11am and after 2pm.
Transport Agency Journey Manager Lee Wright says the resurfacing work is important for safety and can only be completed in the warmer and drier summer months. “We appreciate people’s patience during this time, here and at other work sites around the country.”
