The NZ Transport Agency starts ten weeks of road repairs on the state highway just 3km south of Oaro, near Kaikoura, from next week, 27 September.
See the Transport Agency map for exact location(external link).
The highway will be reduced to a single lane with traffic signals. Drivers should expect delays of ten minutes at times. A retaining wall has to be constructed and a guardrail reinstated for the summer holiday period.
Update on earlier work north side of Kaikoura.
Further north on State highway 1, road repairs near Ohau Point, Kaikoura, have been progressing well despite some additional weather-related damage in recent weeks. The road should be back to two lanes with a metal surface this week. This part of the State highway will be sealed when the weather is warmer and dryer.
The Transport Agency asks all drivers to slow down and take care around the people working on these sites. Everyone’s patience is appreciated while this work is being done in time for the busy holiday season.
