A number of snow and flooded road warnings are in place around the lower South Island this morning.
Drivers are encouraged to take extreme care and if in doubt, carry chains.
The Lindis Pass, SH8, between Omarama and Tarras reopened before 10 am today after an earlier closure due to snow.
SH6 from Queenstown to Cromwell and Haast to Wanaka have snow warnings area-wide.
Drivers should expect some flooding between Hawea and Haast on the Otago side of SH6.
It is snowing on the Haast Pass (SH6) and electronic message boards are advising drivers of the conditions.
Transport Agency road maintenance crews are available and will keep roads open and driveable as much as possible.
The highway between Milford Sound and Te Anau is currently closed due to avalanche risk. Active avalanche control is being undertaken to dislodge new snow so the road can be safely reopened. Check our website for updates(external link) or the map(external link).
