The NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists who intend to use the Rimutaka Hill Road this evening that snow is expected to fall on the road, and there is a possibility it may close.
NZTA Wellington Transport Systems Manager Mark Owen says the MetService is predicting that there could be snow in the region down to 300 metres this evening, with several bands of sleety rain falling through the night.
Mr Owen says people needing to travel over the hill road should consider doing so before night time, in case they are unable to access the road.
“While we can’t say at this stage if and when the road could be closed, people need to plan ahead and consider travelling earlier, rather than later. People can check our Traffic info map(external link) for the status of the road, and remember to drive safely and to the predicted snowy and sleety conditions.”
