Drivers are being urged to take care on SH12 through the Waipoua Forest in Northland, with a section of the highway temporarily reduced to a single lane due to an underslip 3km south of the visitors’ centre.
NZ Transport Agency State Highways Manager for Auckland and Northland Brett Gliddon says the lane reduction is necessary to ensure the safety of drivers with an underslip affecting the stability of the road following this Tuesday’s storm event in the region.
“We’ve reduced the road to a single lane with a 30km/h speed restriction to minimise any further movement at the slip site while our contractors investigate the slip and carry out repairs. We’re asking drivers to be patient and to comply with the temporary speed restriction for their own safety and for the safety of the men and women working at the site.”
Further updates will be released as more information becomes available. For the latest information on travel conditions and restrictions on SH12 and on other parts of the state highway network to www.highwayinfo.govt.nz(external link), or call 0800 111 655 (for more details on Northland roads).
