Motorists can expect short delays on the Kawarau Falls Bridge on State Highway 6 between Frankton and Kelvin Heights next week, while essential pre-winter repairs are made to the bridge deck.
The New Zealand Transport Agency says there will be 5 minute delays, from Wednesday 22nd May to Friday 24th May, between 9am and 4pm. This will be followed by one night time closure the following week of up to 20 minutes, between 11pm and 6am on Monday the 27th May, weather permitting.
NZTA Area Manager for Central Otago, John Jarvis says the work costing around $5,000 and due to be completed by Tuesday 28 May, should give road users a smoother ride and reduce deck noise generated by vehicles crossing the bridge.
“Every effort is being made to minimise the disruption for road users by doing as much of the work as possible at night. Access will be provided for emergency services at all times and the footbridge will be available at all times as well.”
Mr Jarvis said the NZTA appreciates the patience of motorists while we carry out this essential work.
