State Highway 6 through Haast Pass will close early on Monday (3 November) to enable the replacement of the bridge at the Diana Falls slip site.
The NZ Transport Agency’s Regional Performance Manager Pete Connors says it is proposed to close the highway at the Haast township and Makarora at 3pm on Monday and re-open the highway at the slip site at 11am on Tuesday 4 November; traffic being released at Haast township at 10am and at Makarora at 10.30am.
“This closure is critical to enable us to remove of the existing bridge, where Diana Falls goes under the highway and replace it for work to begin reinstating the highway to two-lane access before Christmas.”
He says the work is weather dependent and if postponed on Monday, it is intended to close the highway at 3pm on Tuesday 4 November and re-open it at 11am on Wednesday 5 November.
“The site may re-open earlier but this will depend on how long it takes to resurface the bridge.”
Mr Connors says the Transport Agency apologises for any inconvenience caused by the closure but the work is critical in getting the highway re-opened to two-lane traffic.
