The NZ Transport Agency has closed SH6 between Harihari (near Robertson Rd just North of Harihari) and Franz Josef in South Westland. The closure is being manned by contractors at both points.
The closure is due to a slip on the road north of Harihari, as well as flooding just north of the Whataroa River due to heavy rain in the area.
Contractors are monitoring the situation closely – the road will remain closed until further notice.
We’re also advising extra care on SH6 from Franz Josef to Haast and from Hokitika to Harihari due to the risk of surface flooding. Drivers are urged to slow down and drive with caution.
SH73 Arthurs Pass to Otira is being affected by strong winds, we’re urging extra care especially for caravans, motorcycles or high-sided vehicles.
