The NZ Transport Agency will start work on safety improvements to SH57 near the Garden of York garden shop over the next few weeks.
Regional Transport Systems Manager Ross I’Anson says traffic on this road is increasing and so is the number of people visiting this popular garden shop.
“We’re making changes so it will be easier to see other cars when turning in or out of the Garden of York entranceway,” Mr I’Anson says.
Contractors will install more visible signs, a wider shoulder and a right turning bay.
Roadside barriers have been installed along SH57, and work is underway to put in rumble strips and wide centrelines along some sections of the road.
“These safety improvements are an important part of a safety project to prevent people from being killed or injured on this stretch of SH57.”
We appreciate the cooperation of the community and the Garden of York while this is underway,” Mr I’Anson says.
Work is expected to be completed by the end of 2018.
