The NZ Transport Agency is advising State Highway 5 between Napier and Taupo is closed due to multiple slips along the road.
State Highway 2 between Gisborne and Opotiki is also closed at Te Karaka due to flooding - which is blocking through traffic.
Road users are asked to delay travel if possible, as there are no official detours available at this stage.
Crews are working hard to reopen the roads, but challenging conditions are hampering efforts.
An update will be posted on our website and social media pages as soon as the roads are reopened.
