Pavement renewal works get underway on SH45 (Morley Street) between Devon Street West and Vivian Street in New Plymouth next week.
Work to repair sections of the road will start on Wednesday 4 December and is expected to take three weeks.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency Acting Taranaki/Manawatu System Manager Mark Owen says the work will be carried out weekdays between 7am and 6pm and numerous detours will be in place.
“This is a busy area of town so to help minimise disruption to traffic we’ll change the detours as we work through the four areas of the road we are repairing.”
The right turn out of Vivian Street will remain open for the duration of the work and traffic heading towards Westown in the left-hand lane may be diverted up the one-way system at times.
There will be no left or right turn from Devon Street traffic lights into Morley Street SH45 will be closed for the duration of the works, both day and night.
Powderham Street will be closed to through traffic between Morley and Cutfield streets for the duration of the works. Residents will still be permitted access.
Parking will not be permitted on Morley Street between Devon Street West and Vivian Street.
“Pedestrians can continue to use the footpaths and cyclists can either follow the detours or dismount and use the footpaths.
“We’d like to thank the public for their patience while we carry out this work. While we will work to keep traffic moving through the area, please allow extra time for your journeys, especially during peaks times.
“Motorists are encouraged to take care when travelling through the area and follow the detours and temporary speed limits,” says Mr Owen.
These pre-Christmas works may be noisy and while the Transport Agency will try to minimise disruption, residents are likely to experience vibrations from machinery at times.
The asphalting of the road will be carried out over four to five nights in the New Year, weather permitting. This work will cause minimal disruption to traffic.
