Drivers travelling between Tauranga and Rotorua through Pyes Pa are advised to expect minor delays as works will be undertaken at the intersection of State Highway 36 and Oropi Road starting on Monday.
NZ Transport Agency Highways Manager, Brett Gliddon says the work is to improve safety at the intersection by providing a right turn bay for traffic turning into Oropi road.
Mr Gliddon says 1.3km length of road will be improved as part of this work which will also include road resurfacing and shoulder widening to improve visibility at this intersection for drivers.
The works are expected to be completed by late October says Mr Gliddon.
A manual Stop/Go operation will be in place, drivers are advised to allow additional time in their journey due to the minor delays.
“We thank drivers for their assistance and we will continue to monitor conditions of this road before removing the temporary speed restriction,” says Ms Boyt.
Motorists can find information about most road closures, detours and road works by calling the NZTA’s free phone on 0800 4HIGHWAYS (0800 44 44 49), which can also be used to report any significant road issues or hazards which people may come across during their travels.
The NZTA also uses other technology to provide information to enable drivers to make better informed choices about their travel. On The Move is a free service which enables people to sign up for information about crashes, road works and driving conditions on their frequently used routes - to sign up, go to www.onthemove.govt.nz(external link).
