State Highway 35 will be closed between Tokomaru Bay and Te Puia Springs for a few hours during the day on Monday, Wednesday and Friday next week.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency National Journey Manager Helen Harris says the closures are required for repairs to the large sheet pile wall damaged in the March weather event.
“A large amount of concrete is required to sure up the footings, and the concrete pump is too wide to allow vehicles past it safely.”
The closures will be in place at the following days and times:
People are asked to plan their travel for outside these times or to use an alternative route.
“While we have been able to reopen State Highway 35, there is still a lot of work to be done. Disruptions such as this are likely to be part of life for those who travel regularly on State Highway 35 for quite some time,” says Ms Harris.
“We will continue to work closely with mana whenua, the local communities and council partners on the long-term repair and recovery plans for Tairāwhiti.”
