Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is reminding motorists that multiple worksites are active on State Highway 30/Te Ngae Road in Rotorua next week, as part of the Eastern Corridor Stage Two project.
Temporary traffic management is place, including lane shifts and off-peak shoulder closures, on the lake side of SH30/Te Ngae Road, between Iles and Basley roads.
Some delays are expected at times, and motorists are advised to plan and allow extra time for their journeys. There may be an increase in people walking and cycling around the site, so please be careful when driving near them.
Planned night works and temporary overnight road closure on SH30/Te Ngae Road between Iles and Ōwhata Road from Sunday 31 July 2022, 7pm to 6am
Contractors will be carrying out nightworks to trench from Basley Road across SH30/Te Ngae Road to underground services, including power and fibre.
Temporary road closure on Tennyson Drive from Monday 8 August at 7am to Tuesday 9 August, 6pm
Contractors will be carrying out trenching across Tennyson Drive to underground services including power, fibre and water from Monday 8 August.
A safety grate at the Waitawa pedestrian footbridge on the southern side of SH30/Te Ngae Road will be installed in the coming weeks. Temporary traffic management will be in place with an off-peak lane closure which may cause minor delays.
Hard landscaping will be completed, including fencing in the garden and berm at the intersection of SH30/Te Ngae Road and Marino Road in the coming weeks. Temporary traffic management will be in place with an off-peak shoulder closure, this may cause minor delays.
Garden maintenance at the SH30/ Te Ngae Road centre median between Sala Street and Tarawera Road is planned for the coming weeks. Temporary traffic management will be in place with off-peak lane closures in both directions, which may cause moderate delays.
Earthworks continue between Iles and Basley roads and include removing the existing berm and footpath and excavating a trench to relocate services and underground existing overhead power lines, which will enable the road to be widened. This work also includes installing new water mains on behalf of Rotorua Lakes Council.
Temporary traffic management is in place throughout the work site between 7am and 6pm on weekdays to ensure contractors are able to work safely and efficiently. Plans are in place to minimise delays through work sites during peak hours.
Most of this work is expected to take place in the road shoulder to reduce impact on traffic. Road users should plan for minor delays however two lanes (one in each direction) will remain open, and access for people walking and cycling provided.
Temporary speed limits of 50km/h are in place for everyone’s safety at the above work sites, including when workers are off-site. Works are weather dependent and in the event of bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, work may be postponed.
The first phase between Iles and Coulter roads received $35 million from the Government’s Crown Infrastructure Partners funding for construction to support growth and development in Eastside Rotorua. The project is expected to take about 22 months to complete.
