State Highway 20B is closed between the Puhinui off-ramps and the airport after a serious crash on Puhinui Road.
The NZ Transport Agency is advising motorists who can to please avoid the area, delay your travel or use SH20A George Bolt Memorial Drive as an alternative.
Traffic is very heavy westbound along the Southwestern Motorway.
Those travelling to the airport should allow plenty of time for their journey.
