Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises that road reconstruction work will be carried out on State Highway 2, near the intersection of Work Road from Tuesday, 9 February.
This is being undertaken to improve safety at this intersection and will include permanent closure of the northbound passing lane. A wide shoulder will be retained for slow vehicles.
The existing passing lane will initially be closed between 9am and 4pm during the works with intersection improvements expected to be completed by early April. The passing lane will then be permanently closed.
Closure of the passing lane was identified as a safety improvement during the design phase of Section 8 between Wright Road and Morton Road.
Road reconstruction work will also be undertaken on SH2 between Willoughby Road and Lindemann Road from Tuesday, 9 February from 7am – 7pm.
We will maintain two-way traffic flow when possible, with periodic stop/go activities in place until the end of these works which are expected to be completed in early March.
Minor delays are expected, however we will monitor traffic queues during the stop/go operations and clear these regularly. These works are in Section 6 of the Waihī to Ōmokoroa Project safety improvements, between Kauri Point Road and Lindemann Road.
Other works along this SH2 corridor include ongoing shoulder widening between Kauri Point Road to Lindemann Road, Sharp Road to Sargent Road and Wainui South Road to Esdaile Road.
Please take extra care, reduce your speed and follow directions of traffic management staff and signage.
