The NZ Transport Agency advises motorists that the southbound lanes of State Highway 2 will be closed between Melling and Dowse Drive between 8pm and 4.30am tonight. Northbound drivers will not be affected.
The closure will allow two heavy lift cranes to move the train that was involved in an incident this morning.
A detour will be in place and will be signposted. Motorists are asked to allow extra time for their journeys, and observe all signs and instructions from road crews.
The detour will take drivers off SH2 onto Block Rd, left onto Pharazyn St, left onto Marsden St, right onto Bridge St, left onto Parliament St, down Hutt Road, and off at Dowse interchange to connect to the Southbound SH2 route. This route will be well signposted.
