The NZ Transport Agency advises that SH2 between Napier and Wairoa is closed until further notice due to multiple slips on the highway.
Acting state highways manager Gordon Hart says road crews are working to clear the slips but the highway is not likely to reopen until tomorrow evening at the earliest.
SH50 at Breakwater Road near the Port of Napier is also closed due to a large slip.
Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution due to the difficult and slippery conditions.
