The NZ Transport Agency advises motorists that a section of State Highway 2 (SH2) between Dive Crescent and Chapel Street in Tauranga is CLOSED due to a serious incident.
UPDATE - 8.00am: The road is now open however people should expect delays.
A pedestrian has been struck by a truck and emergency services are at the scene.
The road is expected to be closed for some time which will have a major impact on traffic in Tauranga this morning.
The closure is affecting westbound traffic travelling into the city from Papamoa and Mount Maunganui along Hewletts Road.
All of this traffic is being detoured onto Dive Crescent and will entering the CBD area via The Strand.
Traffic is already backing up and the Transport Agency urges motorists to consider delaying their travel if possible.
