SH2 at Putorino now open following this morning’s serious crash

Update 2pm: State Highway 2 at Putorino, south of Wairoa, has reopened following this morning’s serious crash.

The road had been down to single lane for much of the morning before closing briefly while the site was cleared.

Both lanes have now reopened, and there is temporary traffic management with a 30 km/h speed limit in place.

Please continue to expect delays while the congestion clears.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi is advising road users to expect delays following a serious crash on State Highway 2 at Putorino, south of Wairoa.

A container truck has rolled near the intersection with Waikare Road this morning after 8am, and has blocked one lane.

Emergency services are en route to the scene.

At this stage, one lane is open and traffic management is on site. Please expect delays, take care and drive to the conditions.

Please also expect a short-notice closure of the road if needed this morning.
