Due to a truck crash, State Highway 1 between Manakau and Ōhau in the Manawatū will be closed for up to three hours from 12pm today to allow heavy recovery vehicles to assist in the removal of the truck.
The road is currently open to traffic in both directions.
Wellington Transport Operations Centre Manager Roxanne Hilliard says road users should avoid the area and delay travel if possible.
“Motorists need to consider their welfare and that of their passengers. Sitting in a car on a hot day for prolonged periods can be dangerous,” Ms Hilliard says.
“We urge motorists to find somewhere safe and cool to stop and avoid getting caught up in queues. An update will be posted on our website and social media pages as soon as the work is completed.”
The NZ Transport Agency wants to thank road users for their understanding and patience.
