The southbound lanes of State Highway 1 (SH1) near Meremere in the Waikato are closed following a serious crash.
The NZ Transport Agency advises motorists that traffic in both directions is being diverted along the northbound lanes of the highway.
Long delays are expected and motorists are urged to avoid the area.
