SH1 south bound detour in place this Sunday night at Te
Kauwhata

|

As part of the on-going construction of the Rangiriri section of the Waikato Expressway, motorists are advised that south-bound traffic will be detoured from State Highway 1(SH1) on to Wayside Road at the Te Kauwhata intersection this Sunday evening (30 March). Traffic will re-join the highway from Te Kauwhata Road, says the NZ Transport Agency.

This detour will only impact south-bound traffic at this location. For Plantation Road residents wishing to travel south towards Hamilton while the detour is in place, there will be no right turn movements permitted on to State Highway 1.  These motorists are asked to use either Churchill East Road and Glen Murray Road.

The Transport Agency says the detour will be in place from Sunday 8pm until midnight Thursday 3 April; and again from 8pm on Sunday 6 April until midnight Thursday 10 April.

This work is to enable construction of the Te Kauwhata Interchange - a key link in the project and which will connect locals to the four-lane highway.  To build the interchange with its bridges and ramps, sufficient room needs to be made available along this section of SH1. The detour is to allow the building of a temporary road so SH1 traffic can be moved onto this road after April 10, until the interchange is completed in 2016.

Speed restrictions will be in place to ensure the safety of all motorists, drivers are asked to take extra care when travelling through this section of SH1 near Te Kauwhata.

This work is weather dependent if conditions are less than favourable this work will be moved to a suitable day.  Advanced warning signs are in place on SH1.

The NZ Transport Agency says it appreciates these works may cause some inconvenience and thanks motorists for their patience.
