SH1 Rangiriri line-marking - expect delays

|

UPDATE 3:30pm
Due to recent wet weather, the line marking on the Rangiriri Section of the Waikato Expressway is taking longer than expected.

The ramp closures originally scheduled from tomorrow are now likely to take place from the middle of next week, around 4 September. This is also weather dependent and may be delayed further if the wet weather continues into next week.

This updates the information below:

15 August 2024:

State Highway 1 users and people coming and going from Rangiriri, Te Kauwhata and beyond can expect some delays from next week as line-marking takes place across the 4.8km Rangiriri section of the Waikato Expressway.

The work will be done with daytime lane and ramp closures and a temporary speed restriction of 70km/h.

Starting from Monday 19 August, the work will run for 2-3 weeks as any rain, fog and low temperatures will restrict progress.

For the first week all work will be on the highway. From about 28 August work will move to the on and off-ramps.  These will be closed one at a time and message boards on SH1 will let people know which off-ramps to take and on-ramp options will be clearly signposted.

Working hours are 9am-3pm to avoid traffic peaks and school drop-offs.

There will be no work at night or on weekends and temporary traffic management will be set up and taken down each day.

The line-marking completes resurfacing works carried out at Rangiriri earlier this year. The NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi thanks people for their patience.
