The NZ Transport Agency is advising commuters that State Highway 1 between Paekakariki and Pukerua Bay will be reopened to traffic in both directions from 5am tomorrow morning.
Senior Journeys Manager Neil Walker says the emergency repair work will be completed to a point which will allow both lanes to open safely in time for the morning peak, but further work will eventually be required to complete repairs to the cycleway and footpath.
“Contractors will work through the night to fully reinstate the sea protection and secure the integrity of road,” Mr Walker says.
“Tomorrow morning northbound traffic will have a temporary speed restriction past the reinstated area, but southbound traffic won’t be impacted at all.”
“Repairs to the footpath and cycleway will be completed as soon as possible, but they remain closed. The repairs will be completed under Stop/ go traffic management and at a time which doesn’t impact peak traffic flow.”
The Transport Agency wants to thank road users for their patience.
