Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising that State Highway 1 at Ōhau is closed due to a serious crash near the Ōhau River bridge.
The road is expected to be closed for at least two hours, and due to the location, there is no detour.
Emergency services are currently on site with contractors, the Serious Crash Unit and a helicopter on their way.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
