Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency is advising that State Highway 1 at Ōhau is closed in both directions due to a serious crash near Kuku Beach Road.
The Serious Crash Unit is currently on site to conduct an investigation of the crash, so the road is expected to remain closed for several hours.
There is no viable detour route available, with the only alternative option being via Wairarapa which would add at least two hours to the journey. Motorists are being advised to avoid the area and delay travel.
