Update: SH1 near Taihape reopens

|

State Highway 1 near Taihape has now reopened to two lanes.

7.30pm

The road, south of the intersection with Rauma Road, has been closed since earlier this morning when a large truck rolled, blocking both lanes.

Crews have been working alongside a crane and forklifts all day to clear the scene, before the road was reopened to one lane earlier this evening. The last of the pallets were cleared from the road just before 7pm and traffic is now able to use both lanes.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) wants to thank all road users for their patience today, for making alternative arrangements and for delaying their travel.

Please be aware there will likely be a backlog of traffic, despite the road being open to a single lane since earlier this evening. Please also drive the conditions and expect delays while the backlog clears.

3.15pm

State Highway 1 near Taihape is now open to one lane of traffic, with traffic management in place. The stretch of state highway has been closed following a serious truck crash earlier this morning.

Crews onsite have now reopened one lane, with a lower speed in place and stop/stop (where traffic is held in both directions) traffic management.

NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi is continuing to remind road users to delay their travel if possible and avoid the area until further notice. If you are travelling through, please expect significant delays while crews continue to clear the scene.

NZTA appreciates the delays will be frustrating and thanks road users for their patience.
