The NZ Transport Agency has re-opened State Highway 1 on the Brynderwyn Hills in Northland to both lanes of traffic.
The road was re-opened just after 10am, with pavement works and road markings carried out overnight and temporary speed restriction signs erected this morning.
Temporary speed restrictions of 50km/h will be in place through this section of road for the next week to ensure the safety of motorists and contractors.
Transport Agency Regional Journey Manager Jacqui Hori-Hoult said that Transport Agency staff and contractors had worked tirelessly in a challenging environment to re-establish the vital SH1 link for the region.
Ms Hori-Hoult said in addition to workers from Opus and Downers, the job involved 20 different local subcontractors as well as technical advisors and traffic control crews from Tauranga, Hamilton and Wellington.
'This has been a huge team effort to keep Northland moving and we are thankful to the people of Northland for their patience and understnding as we've worked to repair the damage caused by this wild weather.'
The highway was closed when heavy rain last weekend caused an underslip affecting 20 metres of the main road link between Northland and Auckland.
