The NZ Transport Agency advises motorists that the northbound lanes on State Highway 1 northbound [SH1] between Oteha Valley Road and Silverdale will be closed on the night of Sunday 11 April, because of necessary improvements.
The NZTA’s State Highways Manager for Auckland, Tommy Parker, said the NZTA was trying to keep disruption to travellers and essential services to a minimum, by carrying out the work between 10pm and 6am when traffic volumes were lighter.
“We regret any inconvenience to motorists, but resurfacing is an important part of our maintenance programme to ensure the busy motorway is kept in a good and safe condition for everyone using it,” Mr Parker added.
Mr Parker said that the improvements would mean that the BP Service Centre at Dairy Flat would also be closed while the improvements were made.
Northbound motorists have the option of using detour routes via SH17 or East Coast Bays Road which should add only 5 minutes extra to their journey. The NZTA says, however, that those people heading north should make sure that they have enough fuel to get to the next available service stations in Warkworth or Wellsford.
All work is weather dependant. If it can not be carried out on the date specified above, it will be carried out on the next available evening.
The southbound lanes are not affected by the improvements.
