Drivers using the Brynderwyn Hills this Sunday are advised to allow plenty of extra time for their journey as State Highway 1 will be closed overnight for safety and maintenance work.
The State Highway will be closed in both directions from 7pm Sunday March 20 until 6am Monday March 21 to allow the work to be carried out safely and efficiently.
NZ Transport Agency contractors will be resurfacing three sections of highway on the south side of the Brynderwyn ranges to ensure a safer road, a smoother driving experience, as well as making the highway more hardwearing and resilient.
Southbound traffic will be diverted through Waipu and Mangawhai, while northbound traffic will be diverted through Paparoa/Oakleigh.
The Transport Agency says the diversion is expected to add an extra 30 to 45 minutes to the journey.
The closures are timed when traffic is light to minimise the disruption to motorists and the Transport Agency apologises for any inconvenience caused.
The work is weather dependent and will not go ahead if conditions aren’t suitable.
