People heading to Dunedin’s airport at Momona this morning are advised to add an extra 25 minutes to the journey. A double fatality car/truck crash around 3 am means there are detours in place north and south of the airport.

Drivers from the north will be detoured at Riccarton Road, East Taieri and from the south at the turnoff to the airport. The Police Serious Crash Unit is at the scene.

UPDATE at 9:00am State Highway 1, South Canterbury, is now open in both directions at Makikihi. |
State Highway 1 is also closed(external link) between the intersection with Makikihi Beach Rd & Hook Swamp Rd in South Canterbury due to a serious crash. Southbound drivers are detoured onto Makikihi Beach Rd onto Swamp Rd and back onto State Highway 1. This detour is not for heavy vehicles and no detour is available for northbound traffic.
