Next week the NZ Transport Agency will begin work to improve safety on State Highway 58 by widening the shoulder at Brady Point and carrying out tree felling.
In order to do this work, diversions will be in place between Postgate Drive and Joseph Banks Drive from 15 to 26 June, 8.00am to 4.00pm, Monday to Friday.
The NZTA’s Wellington Regional Director, Dr Deborah Hume says the shoulder widening at Brady Point will improve safety for both motorists and cyclists.
“Brady Point currently has no shoulder and there is a history of crashes caused by drivers losing control of their vehicle as they steer around the curve. By replacing a hazardous drainage channel with a shoulder we are creating a more forgiving curve that allows for a greater margin of error. This will also provide a shoulder for cyclists to ride within,” she says.
The tree felling on SH 58 is part of a routine maintenance strategy to remove trees that pose a risk if they fell on to the highway.
“We appreciate the diversion between Postgate Drive and Joseph Banks Drive will cause minor delays for road users. We suggest allowing some extra time to your travel if you are driving on this part of the highway over the next fortnight,” says Dr Hume.
