The NZ Transport Agency’s advising the Manawatū’s Saddle Road will be closed for at least the remainder of the day to allow crews to safely unload fuel from a rolled tanker.
Regional Transport System Manager Ross I’Anson says a special pump and tanker is needed to carry out the work safely and the nearest available one has to come from New Plymouth.
“Once the pump rig arrives, we are told it will be a slow process to safely remove the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) from the overturned tanker,” Mr I’Anson says.
“We anticipate the Saddle Road will be closed all day and possibly overnight. While we regret the inconvenience this may cause, public safety is our single biggest priority”.
A detour is in place over the Pahīatua Track and road users are asked to avoid the Saddle Road area.
An update will be posted on our website and social media pages as soon as the road is reopened.
The NZ Transport Agency wants to thank road users for their understanding and patience.
