Rotorua resurfacing works start this weekend

Rotorua’s spring/summer road maintenance programme kicks off this weekend with resurfacing work planned for State Highway 5 (SH5) at Fairy Springs.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency advises work is scheduled for various sections along SH5 between Sunday 20 September and Wednesday 30 September.

Bay of Plenty System Manager Rob Campbell says the resurfacing work will improve SH5, ensuring safer and more enjoyable journeys for all road users.

“We are committed to ensuring our state highways remain safe and resilient, and this work is part of a large volume of maintenance work across the region planned for this season.”

On SH5, multiple resurfacing sites are scheduled for between Kawaha Point Road and York Street, and will include SH5 near Malfroy Road, Cochrane Street, Sunset Road, Clayton Road and Pererika Street.

Work will be undertaken at night to reduce the impact on traffic, with contractors on site between 7pm and 6am.

While contractors are on-site, a temporary speed limit of 30km/h will be in place with one lane open in each direction. At times, Stop/Go traffic management may be in place.

Delays are likely and motorists are advised to plan ahead, allow extra time for their journeys and take extra care when travelling through work sites.

“Slow down and obey temporary speed limits for your safety, and that of other road users and our road workers,” Mr Campbell says.

In the event of bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, work will be postponed.

Elsewhere in Rotorua, work continues on the Eastern Corridor Stage One project on State Highway 30/Te Ngae Road from Sala Street to Iles Road.
