The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) is reminding motorists to plan their journeys in relation to number of road works due to start within the next week.
From this Friday (11 January) road works south of the city will begin between Hamilton and Rukuhia on State Highway 3. NZTA Highway Network Operations Manager, Karen Boyt, says the works will start on Friday night and they should be completed by 6.00 pm Monday night (14 January). Speed restrictions will be in place.
"We’ve planned the bulk of this work over the weekend to minimise inconvenience to motorists travelling to work during the week," says Ms Boyt. "However, there could be minor delays while the work is underway, so we’d advise weekend and Monday motorists to plan their journey time to allow for these. People may instead prefer to use alternative routes include State Highway 21(Airport Road); State Highway 39 or local roads."
Please note - there will also be an additional two days' resealing work carried on out on Tuesday and Wednesday next week (15 and 16 January).
Ms Boyt says there will also be road works starting early next week further south in the region; again, speed restrictions will be in place on each of these sites:
"The SH1 works near Taupo should take a couple of months to complete, while we expect the SH30 works at Pouakani Forest to be completed within four weeks, weather permitting," says Ms Boyt.
