Road works on St Aubyn Street (SH44) between Kingwell Street and Calvert Road in Moturoa get underway from Monday.
Road surface repairs will be carried out between 6am and 7pm Monday to Saturday and are expected to take five to seven weeks to complete.
Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency Transport System Manager Ross I’Anson says the highway will be operating as a single lane with temporary traffic lights to control the stop/go during the works.
“Our team will monitor queues and adjust the lights accordingly and we will try to get the bulk of the work completed before schools go back to help minimise disruption.
“Kingwell Street will be closed to through traffic for the duration of the works but residents will still be permitted access,” says Mr I’Anson.
“Sections of Calvert Road will also be closed to through traffic from time to time but businesses, schools and properties will remain accessible.
“We are encouraging light vehicles to avoid the area if possible, particularly during peak times to help ease congestion.”
Footpaths will not be affected, and cyclists can either follow the posted diversion routes or dismount and use the footpath through the works area. A temporary pedestrian crossing will be established on the port side of Calvert Road.
“The warmer months are the best time to carry out road maintenance as daylight hours are longer and the warm temperatures and dry air help the new seal stick to the road surface.
“We know the busy summer programme of works can sometimes cause disruption, so we appreciate everyone’s patience while we carry out these essential works,” says Mr I’Anson.
