Road surfacing works along SH1 Te Rapa section from Sunday
night

|

Final road surfacing work along a section of the Waikato Expressway’s Te Rapa section starts this Sunday (23 February) night and will be carried out over two weeks.

The Transport Agency says this work is to put the final seal coat and line markings on the double lane section of State Highway 1 at Te Rapa between Wairere Drive and Horotiu Interchange.

The work will be carried out during the evenings from 6.00pm through to 6.00am daily starting this Sunday night.

Transport Agency Project Services Manager Peter Simcock says the final smooth and quiet OGPA (open grade porous asphalt) seal will be applied now the initial chip seal has had time to fully embed.

He says there will be minimal disruption to motorists as a single lane will be open at all times in both directions while the work is being carried out, however speed restrictions will be in place and motorists are advised to take care.

This work is weather dependent so if conditions are less than favourable this activity will move to the next fine day. Final thermoplastic line markings will be applied in a couple of months once the final seal has settled.

The final OGPA seal was applied to single lane areas and on and off ramps of this section of the Expressway last December.
