Work will start next Monday, 29 October on resurfacing sections of State highway 6A, the main route in and out of Queenstown.
About 15,000 vehicles a day use this highway.
The NZ Transport Agency says the $400,000 job involves repairs and asphalt resurfacing on the section of Stanley Street at the bottom of the hill between Ballarat Street and Shotover Street, including the two busy roundabouts, plus a small section of Memorial Street.
NZ Transport Agency Area Manager John Jarvis says part of this work includes asphalting the Goldfields Heights and Hensman Road intersections on Frankton Road. These small intersections were not done as part of resurfacing work in the area last year as they require a more durable asphalt surface.
“The contractors will start work in Stanley Street from 29 October 2012 and at Goldfield Heights from 12 November - the entire job, which is needed to replace worn sections of paving, should be completed by 7 December 2012.”
Mr Jarvis says the job will start with milling off the existing surface and replacing it with asphalt. The opportunity will also be taken to do pavement repairs at the same time as the resurfacing.
Every effort is being made to minimise disruptions for road users. To help with this some work may be done at night to reduce delays during busy day time traffic periods he said.
