Road surface improvements for part of Southern Motorway
Work starts tomorrow evening, Wednesday 26 February, on replacing the surface of a 600 metre stretch of the northbound lane of the Dunedin southern motorway near the Abbotsford Overbridge.
The current surface laid several years ago, has deteriorated to a stage where it’s causing increased tyre noise for both nearby residents and drivers.
Costing an estimated $100,000, the work involves digging the current asphalt back to the road foundations, rebuilding these then applying a new coat of asphalt. Weather permitting the job should be finished by Sunday, 2 March.
Milling out work starts tomorrow, the 26th February from 5.30pm to 9pm and Thursday and Friday between 9am and 4.30pm, then resuming again from 5.30pm until 9pm. On Saturday and Sunday, the new asphalt surface will be applied between 8am and 9pm.
The Abbotsford on-ramp will be out of use while this work is being done. On-road signage will advise motorists of the available detour.
