Road resurfacing work is being carried out in the early hours of this Sunday morning (February 12) on both sides of Kahikatea Drive's railway crossing on State Highway 1, Hamilton. The works are a temporary solution to smooth the unevenness on the approaches to the crossing, which will undergo further works later this year in order to improve the transition between the rail track infrastructure and the road surface.
The NZ Transport Agency’s State Highways Operations Manager, Karen Boyt, says the works will take place between 4.00 am and 9.00 am on Sunday morning to minimise any disruptions traffic. “This interim fix will allow us to reduce bumpiness either side of the crossing in the short term and ensure road users are not inconvenienced in the meantime. Permanent road works will be carried out once KiwiRail has completed the track work required, using specialised equipment which is expected to arrive later this year.”
Ms Boyt says works staff will be operating ‘stop’ and ‘go’ signs on site and warning signs and temporary speed reductions will be in place while the resurfacing is being carried out. “As always in relation to our road maintenance activities, we’d ask people to take heed of works signage, slow down and be cautious when moving through the works area, both for their own safety and that of the works crew.”
