Drivers using State Highway 2 over the Chapel Street Viaduct in Tauranga are advised to expect delays as road repairs will be undertaken either this Saturday or Sunday afternoon, says the NZ Transport Agency (NZTA).
Contractors will close one lane at the western end of the Chapel Street Viaduct to traffic heading towards Mount Maunganui so the maintenance work can be undertaken, says NZ Transport Agency’s Bay of Plenty State Highways Manager, Brett Gliddon.
“The work will require a short section of the viaduct to be reduced to one lane, the lanes into the City from Mount Maunganui will not be affected.”
The works are weather dependent, and are planned to take place on the afternoon of Saturday 6 July from 1.00pm. Wet weather may delay the works to Sunday 7 July from 1.00pm. Signage will guide traffic through the work area and a temporary speed restriction will be in place for the safety of workers and drivers throughout this work.
Mr Gliddon says the work has been specifically scheduled for the weekend to minimise the impact on drivers. “These works are weather dependent and will be delayed to the next fine weekend if the weather is bad.”
